National Institute for the Intellectually Disabled (NIID)
1. Management Structure
For the effective operation of the National Institute for the Intellectually Disabled (NIID), an Institute dedicated to the care, education, and rehabilitation of children with Neuro-Developmental Disabilities (Intellectually Disabled, Down Syndrome, Autism and Cerebral Palsy) , a 9 (nine)-member Management Committee shall be formed by the National Executive Committee of SWID for a tenure of 3 (three) years.
2. Management Committee of NIID
The Management Committee of NIID shall consist of the following members:
2.1 Chairman:
1 (one) person – Ex-officio (President of SWID)
2.2 Vice-Chairman:
1 (one) person – Ex-officio (Secretary General of SWID)
2.3 Expert Members:
3 (three) educationists nominated by the National Executive Committee
(Professor / Psychiatrist / Psychologist / Medical Doctor / Sociologist)
2.4 Members:
3 (three) members nominated by the National Executive Committee
2.5 Member Secretary:
1 (one) Director, SWID-NIID
3. Goals and Objectives of NIID
3.1 To provide training in care, education, and rehabilitation programs aimed at developing persons with neurodevelopmental disabilities into productive human resources and integrating them into the mainstream of society.
3.2 To develop educational and vocational training programs aimed at enhancing life skills and work competencies.
3.3 To ensure priority for appropriate educational methods and community-based rehabilitation programs in areas where opportunities for social rehabilitation are limited.
3.4 To place special emphasis on creating awareness and training opportunities through teachers, professionals, therapists, social workers, psychologists, and others regarding disability, prevention, care, and rehabilitation.
3.5 To arrange training programs for government and non-government service providers, nurses, carers, caregivers, and health workers.
3.6 To conduct research activities in collaboration with relevant institutions, centers, and universities related to care, education, training, rehabilitation, and prevention of disabilities.
3.7 To establish and operate an international-standard specialized institution as a “Center of Excellence”, and to work under affiliation or inclusion with any recognized university in the country.
3.8 To provide psychosocial guidance and counseling services.
3.9 To conduct research on Neuro developmental disabilities, publish information materials, and create social awareness for disability prevention.
