About TWID

The Trust for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (TWID), Bangladesh is a charitable trust established to ensure the long-term protection, care, and welfare of persons with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

The organization was founded in 1994 through the initiative of the Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID Bangladesh).

TWID is officially registered under the Registration Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Bangladesh, through the Tejgaon Sub-Registry Office, on 30 March 1994.

Representatives from SWID are included in the trust structure, and the activities of TWID are conducted in accordance with its constitution under the guidance of SWID Bangladesh.


Goals and Objectives

The primary goal of TWID Bangladesh is to ensure a secure, dignified, and protected life for persons with intellectual disabilities and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD), particularly when their parents or guardians are no longer able to care for them.

The key objectives include:

  • Ensuring the rights, protection, and social security of persons with intellectual disabilities and NDD.

  • Supporting the establishment of residential homes, hostels, employment units, sheltered workshops, and occupational centers for persons with intellectual disabilities.

  • Mobilizing support and cooperation from government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, private organizations, corporate bodies, and individuals for the welfare of persons with intellectual disabilities.

  • Collaborating with parents, guardians, and national and international organizations to develop appropriate programs for the welfare, protection, and rehabilitation of persons with intellectual disabilities.


Activities and Programs

TWID Bangladesh works as an associate organization of SWID Bangladesh, focusing on long-term welfare and rehabilitation of individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.

Key activities include:

  • Supporting education, training, and rehabilitation programs for persons with intellectual disabilities and autism.

  • Promoting socialization and daily life skill development for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders.

  • Providing opportunities for special education and vocational skill development to help individuals become more independent.

  • Facilitating participation in national and international vocational and social programs to enhance employment and self-reliance.
